We hereby inform the business community and other interested parties that on August 7th, 2023, the Assembly of the Republic of Mozambique approved the proposal for the revision of the Labor Law.
The revision of the Law No. 23/2007 of 1st of August, was reasoned by its nonconformity taking into consideration, among various aspects, the increase of foreign direct investment in the extractive industry sector of activity in the national territory, with emphasis on mining and petroleum, the need for establishing flexible working time arrangements that respond to new labour dynamics, as well as the necessity to adapt to other forms of work, such as remote work (telework) and alternating work.
The revision of the Labour Law seeks to harmonise the current legal-labour framework with the evolving social realities, in order to stimulate increase of production and productivity, thus contributing positively to income generation, competitiveness in the economy, improvement of the doing business, with positive impact in the sustainable development of the country.
It should be noted that the approval of the proposal by the Assembly of the Republic does not imply its entry into force, which will only occur 180 days after its publishment in the Official Gazette.
